Rehabilitation, Education and Community Health (REACH) is a non-governmental, non-profit, impartial and independent Iraqi organization. REACH provides humanitarian aid to IDPs, refugees and vulnerable host communities, by assisting and supporting efforts to make a difference in the lives of the community members we serve.
REACH was founded in 1995 in Suleimaniyah by a group of former staff members whom worked for Oxfam GB until its headquarters decided to end its operation. We are registered with both the Iraqi central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional government. The organizational headquarters is in Suleimaniyah and there are operational offices in Kirkuk, Khanaqeen, Duhok, Erbil and Mosul.
REACH has been implementing numerous Relief and Recovery projects targeting Iraqi IDPs & returnees as well as Syrian and Iranian refugees in the region. Activities include core lifesaving assistance, mainly Food Security, Shelter and Winterization, as well as Psychosocial Support, vocational trainings, Income generating activities, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation projects. Our particiaptory approach empowers the communities we work with and to date, REACH has established over 80 Community Based Organizations.
Since 2012 REACH mainly provides emergency assistance to Syrian refugees and Iraqi IDPs including NFI, FI and H&H kits supported by UNHCR, DKH, Christian Aid, and other donors. As the crisis protracts, REACH is also working towards more long-term programming that targets primarily beneficaries in the safer and more stable areas of Northern Iraq, such as cash based assistance and sustainable livelihood interventions.
Lastly, REACH also maintains three community centers funded by DKH Germany since 2014. The community centers are in three different locations in Suleimaniyah governorate. They provide psychosocial supports to children, teenagers, women & men of Syrian refuges, Iraqi IDPs and vulnerable host communities around the centers. All the staff members and the trainers have been trained on how to provide psychosocial support, in addition to refreshers on annual basis.
